ABOUT THE 2010 STONEWALL JACKSON AREA COUNCIL
SILVER BEAVER AWARDS The Silver Beaver Award is the highest form of recognition that a local council can bestow on a volunteer. In 1931, BSA. President Mortimer L. Schiff recommended to the National Board that an award be devised for recognition of distinguished service to youth in the area of a local council and the concept of the Silver Beaver recognition was established The Stonewall Jackson Area Council has a proud tradition of participation in this recognition program for over a half Century. In 2010, our Council plans to recognize up to four additional leaders who may be nominated for their service to youth. Although presentation is made
by the Council, all nominations submitted must be approved by the National
Court of Honor before the award can be presented. Only those persons who
have been nominated by their Scouting peers are considered by the local
council and the award may not be personally applied for. The selection
process in our Council involves a Silver Beaver Selection Committee.
The Silver Beaver Nominating Committee is pleased to announced the Stonewall Jackson Area Council 2010 Silver Beaver Class:
These five Scouters will be recognized at the Council Annual
Recognition Dinner on Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Best Western Inn
& Conference Center in Waynesboro, Virginia. We are breaking tradition
and announcing our Silver Beaver Class in advance to give everyone the
opportunity to recognize these great volunteers as we celebrate all of
Scouting's accomplishments during our 100th Anniversary Celebration
year!
